Record temperatures played havoc with attendances last week, and this coupled with no pennant programme mid-week and Bowls WA’s sensible cancellation of Saturday’s Metropolitan pennants means there is little to report.
A few braved Tuesday’s conditions and deserve recognition - for their courage perhaps? Andy McGlew and Pek Goh enjoyed a plus thirteen win and Win Jones David Ironside and Judith Parnell finished one up.
The finals of the Club Pairs Championship were held on Sunday 29th. It was hot but this did not affect the quality of the competition with excellent bowling by all involved. The winners were Mark Lindsay and Brian Wright with John O’Meehan and Peter Collins runners up. Peter Jeanes and Kingsley Newman were successful in the Plate from Lindsay Richardson and Noel Reynolds.

The post-Christmas resumption of mid week pennants found us short of a gallop in our lower grades, but all rink wins by 1 White and 3 Blue promise a good second round. 4 Gold and 5 Gold each won a rink while 3 Gold and 4 Red came home pointless. John O’Meehan, David Hyde Gordon Wilson and Ross MacKenzie of 1 White landed the Print Hotline award.
Saturday was nothing to write home about with 3 White our only winning team earning 7 1/2 points. An 11 shot win secured the Print Hotline award for Alan Pitman Noel Reynolds Tony Vidovich and Ken McPherson.
In the Tuesday mixed competition Joel Steinberg Chris Anderson Bruce Fiegert and Rosemary Barr were best with plus 13, by one shot from Barry Harper Dawn Newton Maria D’Angelo and John Hollingshead

Round 9 of Saturday Pennant fixtures was completed last week with a two/three result. 5 Blue and 6 Blue won on aggregate with our three top teams conceding to the opposition by significant margins. Best rink of the day, taking out the Print Hotline Award, was the 5 Blue team of Phil Jacobsen Win Jones Ross McClennan and Ian Broadfoot with a twelve shot win.
Rsults for Thursday’s pennant trials not available. Sorry.
In Tuesday’s mixed event we had 33 starters causing a headache for the selectors and requiring two fours, a triples a pairs and and a four plays three. Results were close with Win Jones and Kay Anderson winning the pairs 8 up, Barry Harper Maria D’Angelo and Val Jackson next on 7 up and Ric Mapley Bruce Fiegert Beryl Bartlett and Margo Anderson were next best with 5 up.
First rounds of the club Pairs were held on Sunday 15th, with some good bowls worth watching.The finals are currently scheduled for Sunday 22nd January, but this may be changed due to possible conflict with the State Singles - watch the calendar (on the “Events” page), and the Club notice board!

We had reasonable fields during the holiday week, Andy McGlew John McIntosh Dawn Newton and Noel Ironside were best in Tuesday’s mixed on +14, with Peter Norris Gwenda McIntosh and John Hollingshead next on +10

A good roll up of pennant players on Thursday and Saturday gave the selectors a chance to match teams on both days; results varied somewhat.

Thursday’s best were Peter Jeanes Ross Donald Martin Adams and Ken Brooke on +17. Next were Peter Collins Phil Jacobsen and Andy McGlew on +12. Another nameless team reported a +12 as well, but as they played an extra couple of ends - obviously seeking fame - their names will not go down in history.

Kerry Haddleton’s team of Ric Camins Terry McManus and Ken Brooke on +19 scraped home on Saturday by two shots for a best result, from Andy McGlew David Ironside and Andy Anderson. Playing 2-4-2 Peter Wiesner and Don Zimmerman had a +18 as best of the bankers. The post game sausage sizzle was much appreciated; our thanks to chef Martin Adams.

Competitions - w/e 18/12/2011

It was a much better week for us with three of our six teams winning on aggregate on Thursday 3 Blue and 4 Red winning all rinks. For the first time three of our ladies helped make up numbers. Thanks to Joan Robins Maddy Ibbotson and Cathy Minchin.
On Saturday it was even better with all 5 teams winning on aggregate. 6 Blue had an all rinks win helped by a remarkable 46 to 5 result for John Monks John Shaw Maitland McLennan and Neil Scott with an 8 shot end on the way. Neil earning his badge at the tender age of 96! This of course earned that team the Print Hotline award. Jim Robinson Ken Brooke Win Jones and Bill Ridge won the award on Thursday with Plus 21.
The mixed game on Tuesday saw a good win for Jim Robinson Barry Harper Kay Anderson and Bruce Fiegert with plus 15. John Robins Maria D’Angelo and David Ironside were next on plus seven.
