Men’s Singles Championship Final
Friday 21 March at 4pm
Alek Gryta versus Neil Davis
The Men’s Singles Championship continued on Sunday 9th with the completion of the quarter and semi finals. After a day of intense competition, we are left with two survivors. The final will be between Alek Gryta and Neil Davis. It will take place on Friday March 21 starting at 4pm. We look forward to seeing a large crowd in attendance.
In the morning’s quarter finals, the most exciting game was between Mike Joyce and Rick Camins. Having been 17-3 down, Mike launched a dramatic comeback to get the score back to 20-20, only to see Rick hold his nerve to secure the final shot he needed to progress to the semi finals. In the other games, Alek Gryta defeated Andrew Foster 21-6, Neil Davis defeated Alan Pitman 21-14, and Jesse Brown defeated Peter Hopper 21-10.
The afternoon saw two excellent games played out in front of an appreciative audience. Alek Gryta and Rick Camins were locked in a tight tussle to the midway point until Alek eventually got the upper hand to run out a winner by 21-10. The second semi final was a see-saw battle with Neil Davis winning 5 consecutive ends to lead Jesse Brown 8-3 only to see Jesse pick up 9 shots in 3 ends to lead 14-10. In the defining point of the game, on the next end Neil calmly drew the shot when 4 down and never looked back, winning 6 of the next 7 ends to win 21-15.
Many thanks to Ian Day, Tony Payne, and Matt Green for voluntarily giving up their Sunday to mark the games (along with the Men’s Captain who had no choice) and all those who came along to watch.
